IHTFP Check it out! A (nearly) comprehensive list of things that IHTFP stands for (beyond the obvious). Vulgar language warning: this is not for the easily offended.
The IHTFP Online Hack Archive MIT has a long-standing tradition of hacking among its students. A "hack" is the slang term for a practical joke which requires considerable planning and technical ability to pull off.
Coming Soon! Information about the beanie on the Great Dome!
The most famous hack in recent memory was the police car on the Great Dome, in which a replica of a campus police car, complete with working lights, a "policeman", a cup of coffee, and donuts, appeared on top of the Great Dome in the center of campus at about 3:30am on May 9, 1994. The hack was reported in the AP newswire and appeared complete with video footage on several national news broadcasts that evening.
The biggest hack of the past few years (and my favorite) was The Cathedral of Our Lady of the All-Night Tool, in which Lobby 7 (the main lobby of MIT) was transformed into a place of worship for the hard-working and never-sleeping students of MIT for Halloween weekend, 1992. The Cathedral featured the 0xF Commandments of Thy Goddess Athena (the campus computer network), gilded electronics and computer equipment, a computerized confessional, Jolt cola (twice the caffiene, twice the sugar) on the altar, fundamental physics equations in the skylight, and stained-glass windows depicting scenes of life at MIT. There was also a real wedding of two former MIT students in the Cathedral.

A word of caution: the site is slow to load, and Netscape enhanced.

Arthur C. Clarke An unauthorized web page about science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Childhood's End fame. Clarke has been my favorite author since I was about 12 years old. He writes good classical hard science fiction with real science in it. Also check out the newsgroup, alt.books.arthur-clarke.
Several of my friends have cool web pages with lots of fun links. Check them out!
