"There is a hole in your mind." --"The Gathering" It was the dawn of the Third Age of Mankind, ten years after the Earth- Minbari War. The Babylon project was a dream given form. Its goal: to prevent another war by creating a place where humans and aliens could work out their differences peacefully. It's a port of call, home away from home, for diplomats, hustlers, entrepreneurs, and wanderers. Humans and aliens wrapped in two million, five hundred thousand tons of spinning metal, all alone in the night. It can be a dangerous place, but it's our last best hope for peace. This is the story of the last of the Babylon stations. The year is 2258. The name of the place is Babylon 5. "I'm sorry, here, open my wrists!" --Londo "Centauri don't have major arteries in their wrists." --Garibaldi "Of course we don't. What do you think, I'm stupid?" --Londo --Midnight on the Firing Line "I'm in the middle of 15 things, all of them annoying." --Ivanova, MotFL "The best way to understand someone is to fight him, make him angry. That's when you see the real person." --Sinclair, MotFL "Blood calls out for blood." --Londo, MotFL "The wheel turns, does it not, Ambassador?" --G'Kar to Londo, MotFL "This is not a clear and present danger? I must read the rule book again." --Ivanova, "Soul Hunter" "From the stars we came, and to the stars we return, now until the end of time. We therefore commit this body to the deep." --Ivanova, SH "It's all so brief, isn't it? A typical human lifespan is almost a hundred years, but it's barely a second compared to what's out there. It wouldn't be so bad if life didn't take so long to figure out. Seems you just start to get it right, and then, it's over." --Franklin "Doesn't matter. If we lived 200 years, we'd still be human. We'd still make the same mistakes." --Ivanova "You're a pessimist." --Franklin "I am Russian, Doctor. We understand these things." --Ivanova, SH "You would plan such a thing? You would do such a thing? Incredible." --The Soul Hunter to Delenn, SH "Why do you fight for her? Don't you understand? She is Satai! She is Satai! I've seen her soul! They're using you! They're using you!" --The Soul Hunter to Sinclair, SH "I knew you would come. We were right about you." --Delenn to Sinclair "It's okay, she's just sleeping. Whatever she has to say can wait until she's back on her feet." --Franklin "Yeah, but I'll bet half a year's salary she never finishes that sentence." --Sinclair, SH "No, it can wait. There's always time." --Sinclair, SH "What do you want, you moon-faced assassin of joy?" --Londo to Vir, "Born to the Purple" "Or perhaps it's what we Russian pilots used to call, 'gremlins.'" --Ivanova to Garibaldi, BttP "Cheer up. After this is over, you will have your freedom, Ambassador Mollari will have his memories, and I will have the mighty Centauri Empire by its throat." --Trakis, BttP "And after spending a day dealing with Ambassador G'Kar, I long to sink my teeth into something." --Londo to Adira, BttP "Garibaldi! Why are your fingers on my console?" --Ivanova, BttP "Are you sure this isn't just a figment of your demented imagination? A cry for help perhaps?" --Ivanova to Garibaldi, BttP "It's the perfect opportunity to get your feet moist!" --Londo to Vir, BttP "And Vir! Don't give away the homeworld!" --Londo, BttP "Just don't give away the homeworld!" --G'Kar to Kodoth, BttP "I'm going to find Londo and bring him here." --Sinclair "What if he refuses?" --Talia "Then I hurt him." --Sinclair, BttP "How did you do that?" --Londo "I like to know all there is to know about Babylon 5, and Garibaldi has very extensive files." --Sinclair, BttP "I have a friend or two down here myself." --Londo "I take it these are not them?" --Sinclair, BttP "Okay Lt. Gremlin, this time your butt is mine." --Garibaldi, BttP "I never knew you could be so devious, Commander." --G'Kar "Coming from you, ambassador, that's a real compliment." --Sinclair, BttP "My dear G'Kar, how can I ever thank you? You have saved my career, and the honor of the entire Centauri Republic." --Londo, BttP "My gremlin made another call, and this time I tracked it. You're not going to believe this, but it was just what you originally said, a computer error. I fixed it, and I don't think it'll happen again, will it?" "No, it won't." --Garibaldi and Ivanova, BttP "This is supposed to be an event! This is the second anniversary of Babylon 5 going on-line! We took a poll when this station first opened, and 75% of ISN viewers said this place wouldn't last 5 minutes! Lloyds of London put the odds of this station surviving even one year at 500 to one. Against!" --ISN reporter, "Infection" "How sharper than the serpent's tooth." --Sinclair, "Infection" "Stephen, there's a Martian war machine parked outside. They want a word with you about the common cold." --Hendricks, "Infection" "In the last 5 years, I've seen things off-world you can't even imagine." --Hendricks, "Infection" "Would you care to comment on any of that?" --ISN reporter "I'd rather have my tonsils taken out through my ears." --Garibaldi, Inf. "Don't. You're too young to experience that much pain." --Ivanova, Inf. "You forgot the first rule of the fanatic. When you become obsessed with the enemy, you become the enemy!" --Sheridan to Ikaran, "Infection" "You endangered a quarter-million human and aliens just to raise your profit margin." --Franklin to Hendricks, "Infection" "Santiana. 'Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.' " --Ivanova to Franklin, Infection "It would seem no one reads Santiana any more. If you'll excuse me, I'll be over there, getting drunk with the rest of the aliens." --Ivanova "Is it [space] worth it? Should we just pull back, forget the whole thing as a bad idea, and take care of our own problems at home?" --ISN reporter "No, and there's a simple reason why... Eventually our sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marylin Monroe, and Laot Su, and Einstein, and Moro Buto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanese, and all of this, all of this was for nothing, unless we go to the stars." --Sinclair, "Infection" "Are you Ambassador G'Kar?" --Tu'Pari "This is Ambassador G'Kar's quarters, this is Ambassador G'Kar's table, this is Ambassador G'Kar's dinner, which part of this progression escapes you?" --G'Kar, "The Parliament of Dreams" "I have lived well, and now I will die well. I have ordered my considerable assets liquidated upon my death. The funds will be given to someone emminently qualified to kill you." --Durog (sp?), TPoD "In a world where every day is a struggle, you need all the gods you can get." --Londo, TPoD "Gods by the bushel, gods by the pound, gods for all occasions!" --Londo "Ahh, he has become one with his inner self!" --Vir "He passed out." --Garibaldi "That too." --Vir, TPoD "This is how we get into trouble every 3 years." --Catherine Sakai, TPoD "Ambassador, it is not my place to speculate on how anything gets into your bed." --Na'Toth, TPoD "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." --G'Kar, TPoD "I cannot have an aide who will not look up. You will forever be walking into things." --Delenn to Lennier, TPoD "I still have your letters. I read them from time to time to remind myself why we shouldn't be together." --Catherine to Sinclair, TPoD "And so, it begins." --Delenn (to Sinclair?), TPoD "If you do not come with me, you will be the late courier Tu'Pari." --Na'Toth, TPoD "Don't touch me unless you mean it!" --Catherine to Sinclair, TPoD "Allaying the target's suspicions is so time consuming. Do you have any idea how long I waited in the customs area for Na'Toth to find me?" --Tu'Pari to G'Kar, TPoD "And this is the part where I'm supposed to decide I trust you, drop my guard, and let you shoot me in the back." --Tu'Pari to Na'Toth, TPoD "That hurt!" "Ambassador, it was the only way to disable the paingivers. I had to hit them as hard as possible, as often as possible, and still make it appear though if I were beating you into another incarnation." "And you didn't enjoy it in the least?" "I didn't say that." --G'Kar and Na'Toth, TPoD "You will know pain," "and you will know fear," "and then you will die." --G'Kar and Na'Toth, TPoD "Oh, it's a rebirth ceremony alright. It also doubles as a marriage ceremony. Depending on how seriously anyone took it, somebody got married the other day." --Catherine "Maybe that's why G'Kar is smiling. Funny, I didn't think Londo was his type." --Sinclair, TPoD "Casual thoughts are very easy to block, but strong emotions have a way of slipping through sometimes, whether you want them to or not." "Ooh, I think I'm in love." --Garibaldi, "Mind War" "There are rules, and there are rules, Commander." --Psi Cop Kelsey "Since we bear a greater responsibility, we are afforded greater latitude, in the interest of efficiency." --Psi Cop Bester, MW "And PsiCops, what are you rated?" "P12. Someone has to keep an eye on the rest." "Yes, but who watches the watchmen?" --Ivanova and Kelsey, MW "That information is on a need to know basis, and you do not need to know." --Bester to Sinclair, MW "No one here is exactly what he appears. Not Mollari, not Delenn, not Sinclair, and not me." --G'Kar to Catherine, MW "Only one in every thousand humans has telepathic abilities. Only one in every 10,000 telepaths has telekinetic abilities, and half of them are clinically insane." --Jason Ironheart, MW "Anatomically impossible, Mr. Garibaldi, but you're welcome to try, any time, any where." --Bester, MW "I don't care if you had a personal message from God, complete with stone tablets! You lied to me! You withheld information and put this station at risk!" --Sinclair to Bester, MW "Good old Psi Corp. You guys never cease to amaze me. All the moral fiber of Jack the Ripper. What do you do in your spare time, juggle babies over a fire pit? Oops, there goes another calculated risk!" --Ivanova, MW "Do you know what it's like when telepaths make love, Commander? You drop every defense, and it's all mirrors, reflecting each other's feelings, deeper and deeper, until somewhere along the line your souls mix, and it's a feeling so profound it makes you hurt. It's the only moment in a telepath's life when you no longer hear the voices." --Talia, MW "The Psi Corp is dedicated to one thing, Commander. Control." -Ironheart "It's a power we were not meant to have. We're not ready for it." -Ironheart "You realize, of course, my superiors will believe none of this." --Bester "Yes, especially since in about an hour we'll have a small accident in data storage that'll erase the file you just saw." --Sinclair, MW "That's a lie!" --Bester "Yes it is. What's your point?" --Sinclair, MW "Be seeing you." --Bester, MW "Why?" "Why not?" "That's not an answer." "Oh, yes it is, it's simply not an answer you like or the answer you expected. There's a difference. Narns, humans, Centauri, we all do what we do for the same reason, 'Because it seemed like a good idea at the time.' " --G'Kar and Catherine, MW "And so we are back to 'Why not?' I told you before you left, no one here is entirely what they appear. If I surprised you, all the better." --G'Kar to Catherine, MW "There are things in the universe billions of years older than either of our races. They are vast, timeless, and if they are aware of us at all, it is as little more than ants, and we have as much chance of communicating with them as the ant has with us. We know, we've tried. And we've learned that we can either stay out from underfoot or get stepped on." "That's it? That's all you know." "Yes. They are a mystery, and I am both terrified and reassured to know there are still wonders in the universe, and that we have not yet explained everything. Whatever they are, Miss Sakai, they walk near Sigma 957, and they must walk there alone." --G'Kar and Catherine, MW "There was a time, Mr. Garibaldi, when one could walk through Green Sector without need of escort." --Delenn, "War Prayer" "Pro-Earth? They're nothing but hate peddlers, playing off fear and ignorance to turn human against alien." --Sinclair, WP "All I could see was a shadow. I'm sorry." --Shaal Mayan "This shadow, was it humanoid? Alien? Big? Small?" --Garibaldi "It was a shadow. That is all that I know." --Mayan, WP "I could remove that mark." --Franklin "No, it is a lesson. One that should not be forgotten." --Mayan, WP "It will only take a minute." --Ivanova "I don't have a minute." --Garibaldi, WP "I found an illegal planter in the garden last week. Someone was actually using our hydroponics system to grow coffee. And, as everyone knows, the garden is to be used only for fruits, vegetables, grains, so I figured I'd just stop by and rip it right out of that planter. It's too bad, the beans looked just about ripe, and coffee is so expensive to import." --Garibaldi "You're a vicious man." --Ivanova "I'm head of security. It's in the job description." --Garibaldi, WP "Your noble citizens have stolen credit chips." --Sinclair to Londo, WP "Love? What does love have to do with marriage?" --Londo to kids, WP "Love your new look." --Garibaldi "Considering the situation, Garibaldi, I'd think you'd have something on your mind other than my look." --Ivanova, WP "My shoes are too tight, but it doesn't matter, because I have forgotten how to dance." --Londo, WP "We won because the damn Minbari let us win." --Sinclair to Biggs, WP "Put Earth first!" --Biggs, WP "You are still children, and children should be allowed to dance." -Londo "I find many of these people to be more human than you and your kind." "I don't know you any more!" "I never knew you." --Ivanova and Biggs, WP "Everyone lies, Michael. The innocent lie because they don't want to be blamed for something they didn't do. The guilty lie because they have no other choice." --Sinclair, "And the Sky Full of Stars" "What about you, ambassador? What did you do during the war?" --Franklin to Delenn, AtSFoS "Stay in formation! Hold the line! No one gets through, no matter what!" "Oh my God! It's a trap! Mitchell!" --Sinclair, AtSFoS "What the hell is going on around here?" --Sinclair, AtSFoS "Maybe you're asleep! Maybe you're insane! Maybe you're dead! Maybe you're in hell! Not that it matters much, Commander Sinclair, because wherever you are, wherever you go, you're mine." --Knight Two, AtSFoS "Psi-Corps in Election Tangle" --newspaper headline, AtSFoS "Your mind is in here with me." --Knight Two to Sinclair, AtSFoS "Then you're saying all of this is a simulation, not real?" "What is real, Commander?" --Sinclair and Knight Two, AtSFoS "We're locked together here in your mind. It's a shadow play, without form or substance, but I'm real, Commander, and you're real, and the pain, the pain for you is also real." --Knight Two to Sinclair, AtSFoS "We have the memories of your entire life to play around with, but your thoughts are rooted here, in this station. It means a lot to you, doesn't it?" --Knight Two to Sinclair, AtSFoS "Just one problem, Commander. I don't believe you, and I'm not the only one. It's been a long time, Commander, but we're finally going to get to the truth, even if it kills you." --Knight Two, AtSFoS "Mr. Garibaldi, there are days I'm very glad I don't have to think the way you do." --Ivanova, AtSFoS "You don't want to remember the 24 hours in which you betrayed your own race, the day you became a traitor, the day you sold..." --Knight Two "Well, well, it looks like the pain is real for both of us." --Sinclair "The more I walk through his mind, the more I'm convinced he's hiding something. But we have to accelerate the program, break his grip on reality, blur the lines." --Knight Two about Sinclair, AtSFoS "We all hide things, Commander." --Knight Two to Sinclair, AtSFoS "Why risk their lives in a frontal attack, when they could attack us from within!" --Knight Two to Sinclair, AtSFoS "We were outnumbered and outgunned. We didn't stand a chance." --Sinclair "Then why did they surrender?" --Knight Two "Maybe the universe blinked. Maybe God changed his mind." --Sinclair "Not like this! If I'm going out, I'm taking you bastards with me!" --Sinclair, The Battle of the Line, AtSFoS "In his present state, he may even be considered dangerous." --Franklin "Yeah, I kind of got that impression." --Garibaldi, AtSFoS "I know who you are." --Sinclair to Delenn, AtSFoS "Commander Sinclair. There's something in my head. It says maybe you're still inside. Maybe we're both still inside." --Knight Two, AtSFoS "I was pretty messed up, delusional. Strange that seeing you was the only thing that could snap me out of it." --Sinclair to Delenn, AtSFoS "Commander. Do you remember anything from your experience?" --Delenn "No. Sorry. Not a thing." --Sinclair, AtSFoS "Computer. Personal log entry. I remember..." --Sinclair, AtSFoS "Understanding is a three-edged sword." --Kosh to Talia, "Deathwalker" "They say you have Deathwalker in custody." --Mollari "You should know better than to listen to rumors, Ambassador." --Sinclair "Yes, the Wind Swords are right to fear you." "What do you know about the Wind Swords?" "They sheltered me for many years, in return for certain services. They speak of you often, Sinclair. They say you have a hole in your mind." --Deathwalker and Sinclair, "Deathwalker" "Ahh, you seek meaning." "Yes." "Then listen to the music, not the song." --Kosh and Talia, "Deathwalker" "Justice or immortality. An interesting choice." --Ivanova, DW "Tyrants seldom show remorse for their brutalities." --Ivanova, DW "What the hell are you doing, Jeff?" "Following orders." --Garibaldi and Sinclair, "Deathwalker" "The Wind Swords said you were sentimental. A fatal flaw in a warrior." --Deathwalker to Sinclair, "Deathwalker" "What is need, compared to the path?" --Kosh to Talia, "Deathwalker" "Like all secrets long kept, we cannot bear the shame of admitting it now." --Lennier, "Deathwalker" "Our gun arrays are now fixed on your ship; they will fire the instant you come into range. You will find their power quite impressive - for a few seconds." --Ivanova to Drazi ship, "Deathwalker" "What's the situation?" --Sinclair "Well, I've managed to get the ship captains engaged in a debate over who has the best claim to Jha'dur. The winner will be the first to attack." --Ivanova "Creative. Let's hope it buys us enough time." --Sinclair, "Deathwalker" "A herring is just a herring, but a good cigar is a Cuban." --Abbut "A stroke from the brush does not guarantee art from the bristles. Do you understand, Ms. Winters?" --Kosh, "Deathwalker" "What was on that data crystal he gave you?" --Talia "Reflection, surprise, terror. For the future." --Kosh, "Deathwalker" "For one to live forever, another must die. You will fall upon one another like wolves. It will make what we did pale by comparison. The billions who live forever will be a testimony to my work, and the billions who are murdered to buy that immortality will be the continuance of my work. Not like us, you will become us. That's my monument, Commander." --Deathwalker "You are not ready for immortality." --Kosh, "Deathwalker" "I think I may be having a problem with Ambassador Kosh." "Join the club." --Talia and Garibaldi, "Deathwalker" "Ambassador Kosh has been a busy boy today." --Garibaldi "They say God works in mysterious ways." --Sinclair "Maybe so, but he's a con man compared to the Vorlon." --Garibaldi, DW "I certainly have plenty of things to occupy myself here. Yes sir! I think I'll just walk to and fro for a while. Maybe over to my console. After that maybe I'll try pacing fro and to, just for the kick of it. Oh, and there's the view of course. Granted it's not quite the same as if you're outside. For someone who has over 100 hours of combat flying experience.... Don't worry about me. I'm just going to sit here and knit something. Maybe a nice sweater, some socks. Does the term 'stir-crazy' ring a bell?" --Ivanova to Sinclair, "Believers" "We are the Children of Time. We can not break our covenant any more than you can cease being the descendants of egg-sucking mammaloids." --Tharg to Dr. Franklin, "Believers" "The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote." --Kosh to Tharg and M'ola, "Believers" "Sure is for people with nothing on the line. You and me, we just get on with it." --Garibaldi to Sinclair, "Believers" "May God save us from false religion." --Franklin "What makes a religion false? If any religion is right, then maybe they all have to be right. Maybe God doesn't care how you say your prayers, as long as you say them." --Sinclair, "Believers" "Operating on Kosh was the camel's nose in the tent. Operating on Shon will be the rest of the camel." --Sinclair, "Believers" "Who asked you to play god?" --Sinclair "Every damn patient who walks through that door, that's who!" --Franklin "I'm waiting. For an apology." --Franklin "You'd better check the temperature in hell first." --Sinclair, Believers "Sometimes doing the right thing doesn't change anything." --Sinclair "Maybe we'd all be better off if there were no god, if god had never been invented." --Franklin, "Believers" "What makes us human is that we have so many different ways to hurt." --Franklin, "Believers" "Nothing the government does surprises me." --Garibaldi "That's a very Russian attitude. I commend you." --Ivanova, "Survivors" "You are obstructing me! I am invoking presidential authority..." --Kemmer "And I have have had enough of that too. This is my station and it's time you realized that. Lt. Cmdr. Ivanova, escort Major Kemmer off the observation dome." --Sinclair "With pleasure. You are going to resist, I hope? " --Ivanova to Lianna, "Survivors" "Station 1. Commence level 6 maintenance check on all off-station communications channels." "Lt. Commander, that will tie up communications for hours." "Yes. I believe it will." --Ivanova, "Survivors" "Lt. Cmdr., why are all comm channels to Earth off-line?" "Maintenance check. We wouldn't want the president to be out of touch when he gets here." "I demand that you open a channel to Earth at once." "I'm a Lt. Cmdr. in Earth Force, Major. I do not take demands. If you have a request, I'll consider it." "Very well, then I *request* that you open a channel to Earth dome." "Request denied. Have a nice day." --Ivanova and Kemmer, "Survivors" "You're being awfully generous. Any particular reason?" "You're a very suspicious man, Garibaldi, but yes, there is a reason. We are alike, you and I. We are both, as you say, the odd man out. I have been in your place. I can feel how you are pinned. And it would give me some small pleasure to know things can work out, even for us. Now go, please, leave me in peace." "You're all right Londo." "If they catch you I will deny ever seeing you. Good luck." --Garibaldi and Londo, "Survivors" "Oh, my people watch him, his people watch me, we all watch one another here, Mr. Garibaldi." --G'Kar about Londo, "Survivors" "The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements: energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest." --G'Kar, "Survivors" "It's not justice you're after, Major, it's blood." --Sinclair to Kemmer, "Survivors" "If there is anything I can do to be of assistance, you will let me know, yes?" --Londo "No." --G'Kar, "By Any Means Necessary" "Why does the universe hate me?" --G'Kar, BAMN "Commander, we have a problem." --Ivanova "Surprise, surprise." --Sinclair, BAMN "We're as serious as a rip in a spacesuit." --Connley, BAMN "You're not a follower of G'Quan, are you, Na'Toth?" "My father was a disciple of G'Lon. My mother didn't believe in much of anything." "And what do you believe in?" "Myself, ambassador." "Too easy an answer. We all believe in something greater than ourselves. Even if it is just the blind forces of chance." "Chance favors the warrior." --G'Kar and Na'Toth, BAMN "This isn't about money, Commander, or spiritual beliefs. G'Kar is only worried about losing face. The Narns, ehhhh. They're a babaric people. They're all pagans, still worshipping their sun. No, I would rather burn the plant than give it to him." --Londo to Sinclair, BAMN "Lt. Cmdr. Ivanova. In 10 seconds you will escort any unauthorized person still present to the brig and leave them there." --Sinclair "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3" --Ivanova (shouting) "2, 1. What did I miss?" --Garibaldi, BAMN "What you're asking can only end in violence." "I know that. And I fear that's exactly what some people are hoping for." --Sinclair and Sen. Hidoshi, BAMN "You should never hand someone a gun unless you're sure where they'll point it. Your mistake." --Sinclair to Zento, BAMN "Remind me never to play poker with you." --Hidoshi to Sinclair, BAMN "Orin Zento has powerful friends. By embarrassing him, you embarrass them. Today, you have made new enemies. If I were you, Commander, I would watch things very carefully. You are not the most popular person in government circles right now." --Sen. Hidoshi "So what else is new?" --Sinclair, BAMN "The gift of time. The gift of life. The gift of wisdom. The gift of light. For these things were are thankful. For these things we pray." --G'Kar, in the prayers to G'Quon, BAMN "Why does my mouth always taste like old carpet in the morning?" --Ivanova "Unknown. Checking medical logs." --Computer, "Signs and Portents" "Good morning, Lieutenant Commander. Sleep well?" --Sinclair "Sleeping is not the problem. Waking up, that is a problem. I've always had a hard time getting up when it's dark outside." --Ivanova "But in space it's always dark." --Sinclair "I know. I know." --Ivanova, "Signs and Portents" "This hasn't been updated in a while." "I've been out on the Rim, doing some exploration." "Find anything interesting?" "Yes." --customs guard and Morden, S&P "But I would very much like to know how you got your hands on this." "No, you wouldn't." --mercenary and Londo, S&P "I have already pushed it." --Londo "I pushed it again." --G'Kar, waiting for the lift, S&P "One more comment like that, Mollari, and you will become part of the excess population!" --G'Kar, S&P "Now look what you made me do!" --G'Kar and Londo, S&P "Don't thank me until we find out where this thing goes. We may both end up regretting this conversation." --Sinclair to Garibaldi, S&P "I don't think I understand the question." --G'Kar to Morden, S&P "What do you want?" --Morden, S&P "What I want is for you to go away and leave me in peace." --G'Kar, S&P "Wait. What do I want? The Centauri stripped my world. I want justice." "But what do you want?" "To suck the marrow from their bones, and grind their skulls to powder." "What do you want?" "To tear down *their* cities, blacken *their* sky, sow *their* ground with salt, completely, utterly erase them." "And then what?" "I don't know. As long as my home world's safety is guaranteed, I don't know that it matters." --G'Kar and Morden, S&P "This place! Great Maker, this place! No! I see death, destruction, fire, Babylon will fall, this place will be destroyed! Fire, death, pain, fire, death, pain, no, no!" --Lady Ladira, S&P "What is the purpose of your question, Mr. Morden, is it?" "The question is its own purpose, Ambassador Delenn. What do you want?" "They're here." --Delenn, after talking to Morden, S&P "We must all make our sacrifices." --Londo, S&P "Never a transport tube when you need one." --Londo, S&P "What do you want?" "That's what I was going to ask you! What do *you* want?" "You are a lunatic. Go away, pester someone else. You are a very persistent young man." "I have to be. I'm not allowed to leave here until you've answered my question. What do you want?" "This is a silly conversation." "Yes it is. What do you want?" "To be left alone." "Is that it? Is that really all, Ambassador?" All right, fine. You really want to know what I want? You really want to know the truth? I want my people to reclaim their rightful place in the galaxy. I want to see the Centauri stretch forth their hand again and command the stars. I want a rebirth of glory, a renaissance of power. I want to stop running through my life like a man late for an appointment, afraid to look back or to look forward. I want us to be what we used to be! I want, I want it all back the way that it was. Does that answer your question?" "Yes. Yes, it does." --Londo and Morden, S&P "The Shadows have come for Lord Kiro. The Shadows have come for us all!" --Lady Ladira to Londo, S&P "Leave this place. They are not for you. Go. Leave. Now." --Kosh to Morden, S&P "It seems that Ambassador Kosh's encounter suit was damaged, but he's not telling how, just asked for some equipment to have it fixed." --Garibaldi to Sinclair, S&P "What are you doing? We had an agreement?" --Lord Kiro "Had. Past tense." --raider, S&P "A gift. From friends you don't know you have." "The Eye! Where did you go? Let me buy you a drink! Let me buy you an entire fleet of drinks! How will I ever find you to thank you?" "We will find you, Ambassador, we will find you." --Morden & Londo, S&P "This is a possible future, Commander, and it is my hope that you may yet avoid it." --Lady Ladira to Sinclair, S&P "Bozhe moi!" --Rabbi Koslov about B5, "TKO" "Am I going space happy, or are you drinking water?" --Walker Smith to Garibaldi, TKO "My father tried to control my life while he was alive. I don't need anyone to take his place now that he's gone." --Ivanova to Koslov, TKO "Fight with respect and courage." --The Muta-Do, TKO "I blame him for denying me his love, even as mama became incapable of giving me hers. I needed him, Youssel. He wasn't there. My father wasn't there for me. And when Mama took her life and Ganya died, still he couldn't find a shred of love for me. So I left, and he never forgave me for it, as if I were the one who had abandoned him." "And now that he has left for good, you cannot forgive him?" "No, I can't." "Then the tragedy is greater than I thought. Without forgiveness, you cannot mourn, and without mourning you can never let go of the pain. You cannot run away from your own heart, Susan. Not even in space." --Ivanova and Rabbi Koslov, TKO "He's gonna show me where my heart is. And maybe I'll show him a little something, too." --Walker Smith about the Sho-rin, TKO "Into the Sands of Blood comes Walker Smith of Earth, the bravest of his race. And now comes the Sho-rin, master of the Mu'Tai, bravest of the brave, Gyor!" --The Muta-Do, TKO "Watch your back!" --Walker Smith to Garibaldi, TKO "He fought bravely." --The Muta-Do "The best I've ever seen." --Garibaldi, TKO "They say food digests better if you chew it first." --Sinclair "Don't talk, I've seen you eat. Does the term 'Doppler Effect' ring a bell?" --Garibaldi, "Grail" "We went through their archives, and we found proof, that *his* great-grandfather abducted *my* great-grandfather and just took him away in a spaceship. Frankly, your honor, we want damages." --unnamed man, "Grail" "It has many names, but only one promise: the regeneration and salvation of humankind." --Aldous Gajic, "Grail" "I wish him luck. He's probably the only true seeker we have." "Then perhaps you do not know yourself as well as you think." --Delenn and Sinclair, "Grail" "Thomas Jordan. This is your third arrest for petty, not to mention incompetent, thievery." --Ombudsman Wellington, "Grail" "These two sides of your culture, do they ever agree on anything?" "Yes, and when they do, it is a terrible thing, a terrible power, as recent events have shown us. Let us hope it never again happens in our lifetime." --Aldous and Delenn, "Grail" "One person's lunatic is another's true seeker." --Sinclair "You've been hanging out with Delenn too much." --Garibaldi, "Grail" "What are you doing?" "Being efficient, sir." "A few more like you and the entire Centauri Republic will efficient itself to extinction!" --Londo and Vir, Grail "Fools to the left of me. Feeders to the right. I need to find a real job!" --Londo, "Grail" "See yourself for what you are, not what others try to make you." --Aldous to Jinxo, "Grail" "There's nothing in the dark, no fear, no pain, only the light. Show yourself. Show yourself." --Aldous to the feeder, "Grail" "No one knows exactly what you look like. That makes some people a little nervous." --Sinclair "Good." --Kosh, "Grail" "No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow." "What? Look, somebody's got to have some damned perspective around here. Boom. Sooner or later, boom!" --Ivanova, "Grail" "Records don't always tell the whole story." --Colonel Ari Ben Zayn, "Eyes" "Sexual prowess, and rebellion." --Lennier, about motorcycles, "Eyes" "I don't like it any better than you do. Enough people have played with my brain already this year." --Sinclair, "Eyes" "It's not easy to have your dreams snatched away just because you're different." --Harriman Gray, "Eyes" "And as for fear, if you enter my mind for any reason, I will twist your head off and use it for a chamber pot!" --Ivanova, "Eyes" "Protest is as much use with the Vorlons as fairy wings on a cement truck." --Garibaldi to Ben Zayn, "Eyes" "And if I knew who God was, I'd thank her." --Garibaldi, "Eyes" "Mr. Garibaldi, you look like the back end of an Orion slitch." --Sinclair "And a gracious good morning to you, too, Commander." --Garibaldi, "Eyes" "If I kill him, I could start a war." --Garibaldi about Lennier, "Eyes" "Can I borrow your PPG to shoot myself squarely in the head?" --Ivanova "I won't submit to a scan." --Ivanova "He'll charge you with insubordination." --Garibaldi "And I'll be replaced and dishonorably discharged. A very Russian ending, I should have expected it." --Ivanova, "Eyes" "You here to arrest me, Garibaldi?" --Ivanova "No way. I want to live to see the future." --Garibaldi, "Eyes" "Maybe you're scanning the wrong people." --Sinclair to Gray, "Eyes" "The intent of the question is sometimes as important as the answer." --Sinclair to Ben Zayn, "Eyes" "I never thought I'd be grateful to a member of Psi-Corp." --Ivanova, Eyes "It's good to have things back to normal." --Ivanova (about motorcycle) "Let's take care of one crisis at a time, shall we?" --Ivanova, "Legacies" "There's nothing more annoying than Mr. Garibaldi when he's right." --Ivanova to Sinclair, "Legacies" "The Narn regime has accomplished many things in its glorious past, but body-snatching isn't one of them. Why don't you check in the alien sector? I'm sure you could find someone there with an interest in dead bodies." "Oh, no. Not the carrion-eaters." "Bon appetit." --Na'Toth and Garibaldi, "Legacies" "Man, I need a vacation." --Garibaldi, "Legacies" "You talk like a Minbari, Commander. Perhaps there was some small wisdom in letting your species survive." --Neroon to Sinclair, "Legacies" "There's no price high enough to compensate for being surrounded by Narns." --Talia to Alyssa, "Legacies" "When you looked into Delenn's mind, did you see anything else? Anything unusual?" --Sinclair "There was one other thing, a word, Chyrsalis.... She shut down real fast when I touched that. Why would she want to hide that?" --Alyssa "Problem with the transport tube?" "No, not really. It seems like every time I get into the tube, Mr. Garibaldi's there. It's like he knows." "Talia. Mr. Garibaldi is many things, but he's not omniscient." "I think I'll take the stairs." "I think I'll join you." --Sinclair and Talia, AVitW, part 1 "We were told the planet below was stable, safe, and uninhabited. Now it appears to be none of those things." --Ivanova, AVitW1 "Physics tells us that for every action, there must be an equal and opposite reaction. They hate us, we hate them, they hate us back. And so, here we are, victims of mathematics." --Londo, "A Voice in the Wilderness", Part 1 "He never listens." "He will, sooner or later." "How can you be sure?" "Because the alternative is too terrible to consider. Without the hope that things will get better, that our inheritors will know a world that is fuller and richer, life is pointless, and our evolution is vastly overrated." --Delenn and Sinclair about Londo, AVitW1 "The third principal of sentient life is the capacity for self-sacrifice, the conscious ability to override evolution and self-preservation for a cause, a friend, a loved one." --Draal, AVitW1 "A half-truth is the worst kind of lie." --Delenn, AVitW1 "Our world is changing, Delenn. I'm not sure when it began to change. Perhaps the war, perhaps the death of Dukat, perhaps the darkenss was there all along and we refused to see it." --Draal, AVitW1 "It is not the same world in which I was born, Delenn. Not the same world at all." --Draal, AVitW1 "I am going to the sea.... Better to find a place out there in the sea of stars." --Draal to Delenn, AVitW1 "On your trip back, I'd like you to take time to learn the Babylon 5 mantra. Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. And, if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out!" --AVitW1 "Water. Fascinating. I never touch the stuff myself." --Londo to Garibaldi, AVitW1 "Mr. Garibaldi. Whatever it is, it can't be that bad." --Londo "You try and kiss me, and I'll break your arm." --Garibaldi, AVitW1 "And now, I go to spread happiness to the rest of the station. It's a terrible responsibility, but I have learned to live with it." --Londo, AVitW1 "I hope Takagi's right about that fissure being 5 miles deep." "Why?" "Because at our present speed, it's going to take at least 2 miles to decelerate, assuming we don't hit anything on the way in." "This is a hell of a time to think of that!" --Sinclair & Ivanova, AVitW1 "With fighting going on only a quarter-mile from the facility, I think we're entitled to a little paranoia." --woman at Psi-Corp on Mars, AVitW1 "It's a Russian thing. When we're about to do something stupid, we like to catalog the full extent of our stupidity." --Ivanova to Sinclair, AVitW1 "Nuke 'em till they glow and shoot 'em in the dark." --AVitW2 "It's a good thing I'm Russian. We're used to hopeless situations." --Ivanova, "A Voice in the Wilderness, part II" "This to you is status quo? You must lead a very interesting life." --Londo to Ivanova, AVitW2 "Boom. Boom boom boom. Boom boom. Boom!" --Ivanova to Londo, AVitW2 "Worst case of testosterone poisoning I've ever seen." --Ivanova, AVitW2 "Do not let them take the machine. It's not for them. It's not for this time." --the guardian, AVitW2 "God, I hate mornings." --Ivanova "We noticed. Personally, I find it the best time of the day." --Sinclair "Me too." --Garibaldi "We all have our cross to bear." --Ivanova, "Babylon Squared" "Seven... Seven-thirty? I slept through breakfast? It isn't fair!..." --Ivanova "I'll notify your next of kin." --Sinclair to Garibaldi "4, 3, 2, 1" --Garibaldi, whispered "Doh! Garibaldi, you're a dead man!" --Ivanova to Garibaldi, B^2 "Some things one must do alone." --Delenn, B^2 "This is nuts. A station doesn't just disappear and reappear four years later like some Flying Dutchman." --Garibaldi, B^2 "Saddle up! We hit space in 20 minutes." --Sinclair, B^2 "Not every conversation has to be the end of the world as we know it." --Garibaldi to Sinclair, B^2 "Fasten, then zip. You?" "Fasten, zip." "How much longer?" "One hour, 57 minutes. You wanna talk socks?" "No." "It's just a question." "I'm not having this conversation." --Garibaldi & Sinclair, B^2 "Summoned, I come. In Valen's name I take the place that has been prepared for me. I am gray. I stand between the candle and the stars. We are gray. We stand between the darkness and the light." --Delenn, in the Gray Council Chamber, B^2 "We welcome you, Delenn. For too long, the nine have been eight." --B^2 "The prophesy will attend to itself." --B^2 "They've burned through levels 7 and 8. We can't stop them. They're everywhere!" "Garibaldi..." "Look I've rigged the fusion reactors, but there's not much time. Get going, I'll hold them as long as I can. Look, come on, this isn't a conversation. Jeff, it's okay. I finally understand. This is the moment I was born for. Now go, go, go!" --Garibaldi & Sinclair, B^2 "In over a thousand years, no one has ever refused." "Then perhaps it is time." --B^2 "Not the one." --Zathras, about Sinclair, B^2 "They told Zathras, biggest of all Babylon stations we need. Needing, we take. There is no more to tell." --Zathras, B^2 "Zathras tells, maybe we don't break Zathras' scrawny little neck." --Garibaldi "Great war. Terrible war. Much killings. Everyone fighting a great darkness. It is the end of everything. Zathras warn, but no one listen to poor Zathras, no. Great war, but great hope of peace. Need place. Place to gather, to fight, to organize." --Zathras "You need Babylon 4 as a base of operations in a war, is that it?" --Sinclair "To help save galaxy, on the side of light, so they tell me. Must have, or it is the end of all. The One leads us. The One tells us to go, we go. We live for the One. We would die for the One. We pull this place through time to save us all." --Zathras, B^2 "Much apologizing, mathematics not Zathras' skill." --Zathras, B^2 "They carry within them the capacity to walk among the stars, like giants. They are the future, and we have much to learn from them." --Delenn, B^2 "Zathras not of this time. You take, Zathras dies. You leave, Zathras dies. Either way, it is bad for Zathras." --Zathras, B^2 "Jeff, come on down here. I want to get the hell off this station." --Garibaldi, B^2 "Go, you must listen to Zathras. You have a destiny. Go, please, go for Zathras." --Zathras to Sinclair, B^2 "I tried. I tried to warn them, but it all happened just the way I remembered it." --future Sinclair "I know. It's time to go. They're waiting for us." --future Delenn, B^2 "These are curious times, Delenn. I feel a great change in my bones. A new beginning, an end, I cannot say. We are surrounded by signs and portents, and I feel a darkness pressing on our back. If ever you have need of me, I am here. Now, Valen go with you, and light your way." --Gray Council member, B^2 "So it's true, then?" "Yes, it's true." "Great. And I missed it." "Not necessarily, Lt. Commander. We don't know where Babylon 4 was going, or when it was going. Who knows? It may show up again some time." "Well, if it does, next time I'm going and Garibaldi is staying here." "A Flying Dutchman he called it." "I didn't get that reference." "It's a legend, an ancient sailing vessel that vanished while trying to sail the Cape of Good Hope. According to the story, it's reappeared again and again over the centuries, trying to find its way home." "Did the Flying Dutchman ever make it home?" "No." --Sinclair and Ivanova "'I'll be in touch.' Ha. Touch this." --Londo, "The Quality of Mercy" "The taxpayers back home expect us to be self-supporting. They wouldn't approve of us diverting medicine, supplies, resources..." --Ivanova "I know. That's why I didn't tell you." --Franklin, TQoM "Look, I don't mind if you bend the rules a little, Doctor, I mean, I bend a few myself. But I do like to be informed. If I'm gonna share in the blame, I'd at least like to share in some of the fun." --Ivanova "So. You're going to walk around in my head, eh? I'd think twice if I were you. Something might just jump out of the shadows and bite you." --Mueller to Talia, TQoM "The things that live inside us, Mr. Garibaldi, terrible things. Terrible. You said earlier that you would bet good money that he had killed before. You would not have lost." --Talia, TQoM "I did the necessary thing. That is not always the same as the right thing." --Laura Rosen, TQoM "Remember that disturbance you were telling me about at the Dark Star, your team had to break up a near-riot, you had to arrest 30 humans and aliens, two of whom refused to identify themselves?" "Yeah, I was just on my way to look into it. I've been pretty busy." "Well, I can save you the time, we've identified the two culprits." "What!" --Ivanova and Garibaldi, TQoM "I'm still waiting for an explanation, gentlemen." "Yes, and I'm prepared to give you one, Commander, as soon as the room stops spinning." "This station creates gravity by rotation. It never stops spinning." "Well, you begin to see my problem." --Sinclair and Londo, TQoM "Why?" "In Minbari culture, we are taught that it is an honor to help another save face." "But Delenn!" "Will know better, but will not inquire out of respect. Good day, Ambassador." "Lennier, thank you. If you ever need anything from me..." "There is one thing. When we were at the gaming table, somehow a part of you reached out for the cards?" "Yes, yes." "What was that?" "Yes, it's true. Yes, here." "Zi, goddess of passion, a synthesis of male and female Centauri. Did you think these were just decorations?" "I'm going to take a vow of silence concerning this entire conversation. Good day." --Lennier and Londo, TQoM "Vir, how many gods are there in our pantheon? I've lost count since the last emperor was elevated to godhood." --Londo, "Chrysalis" "Now out of that 50, how many gods do you think I must have offended to have ended up with G'Kar's teeth buried so deeply in my throat that I can barely breathe?" "All of them?" "Sounds right." --Londo and Vir, "Chrysalis" "I think I'll stick my head in the station's fusion reactor. It would be quicker, and I suspect after a while I might even come to enjoy it. But this, this, this is like being nibbled to death by, ahh, what are those earth creatures called? Feathers, long bill, webbed feet, go quack?" "Cats." "Like being nibbled to death by cats." --Londo and Vir, "Chrysalis" "Did you see Ambassador Kosh?" "Yes." "Did you relay my question precisely, word for word?" "I did." "His reaction?" "Just one word. He said, 'Yes.'" "Wait for me." --Delenn and Lennier, "Chrysalis" "Life's cheap down here, friend. Funny how the only time you seem to care is when one of your weasels gets it." --Lurker to Garibaldi, Chr "Whatever he saw, whatever he knew, scared him half to death." --lurker, "Chrysalis" "My associates believe you are a person of great potential, trapped in a position where your skills are unseen and unappreciated. They'd like to change that." "Yes, I've heard this before. And I have stopped listening. There comes a time when you look into the mirror, and you realize that what you see is all that you will ever be, and you accept it, or you kill yourself, or you stop looking into mirrors. No, nothing can be changed." "Then nothing can be lost by trying. You have a problem, Ambassador Mollari, Quadrant 37? We can fix it for you if you'll let us." "A heavily guarded, Narn military outpost, and you and your associates are going to fix it for me? You have a very peculiar sense of humor." "Yes, I do. Tell your government that you'll personally take care of Quadrant 37." "They'll think I'm drunk. Or insane." "Perhaps." "And you don't want credit for this grand endeavor?" "No. We're simply here to help. Good day, Ambassador." "Mr. Morden, if I may ask, what is the price for this help?" "No price, Ambassador, but at some point in the future, if we deliver on our promises, we may come to you and ask you for a favor. That's all." --Morden and Londo, "Chrysalis" "I have come, as I said I would. Kosh, I have grave doubts. I must know if it's true. I must see with my own eyes." "Yes. Thank you. Now I will keep the promise. Good bye. You will not see me again as I am now." --Delenn, "Chrysalis" "Is there something wrong with your hearing?" --Londo "No, it's just for a moment I thought I had entered an alternate universe or something." --Vir, "Chrysalis" "If you let your anger cloud your judgement, it'll destroy you." "We know what we're doing. Anything else, Commander?" "Just that I've had this feeling lately, that we're standing at a crossroads, and I don't like were we're going. But, there's still time to choose another path. You can be part of that process, G'Kar. Choose wisely. Not just for the Centauri, but for the good of your own people as well." "We all do what we have to do." --Sinclair and G'Kar, "Chrysalis" "We need you to do a job for us." --Sinclair "No problem. Give me the guy's name and I'll lean on him." --Garibaldi "It's as if some great hand reached out of space and just erased them." "It wasn't the humans. The Centauri don't have the will. The Vorlons don't care. The Minbari wouldn't do it. The other worlds aren't powerful enough for a strike like this. There's someone else out there, Na'Toth!" --Na'Toth and G'Kar, about Quadrant 37, "Chrysalis" "What must happen, must happen. Valen said this day will come. Who are we to stand in the way of prophesy?" --Delenn to Lennier, "Chrysalis" "My condolances on the death of your president. This has been a black day for both of us, Lt. Commander Ivanova, a black and terrible day." --G'Kar, "Chrysalis" "What have you done?" "Only what you asked me to do. You had a problem with Quadrant 37, we took care of it for you." "Yes, but you killed 10,000 Narn!" "I didn't know you cared. What does it matter? Ten thousand, a hundred thousand, a million, what's the difference? They're Narns, Ambassador, your sworn enemy." "Yes, I know, but I didn't think... I thought you would find a way to protect our ships, or cripple their forces, not..." "Ambassador, your name is being spoken at the highest levels of the Centauri government. They don't know how you did it. They don't care. They credit you with saving them from another embarrassment without creating a war in the process. They've noticed you, Ambassador, which was the point of the exercise. I hear they have great plans for you." "Yes, but 10,000, in cold blood?" "Ambassador, you're a hero. Enjoy it. I'll be around." --Morden and Londo, "Chrysalis" "Commander, I consider it very unlikely that your security chief would just stumble across something our best agents didn't know about!" --Senator to Sinclair, "Chrysalis" "And so it begins. You have forgotten something." --Kosh to Sinclair, Chr "You're too late." --Lennier to Sinclair, "Chrysalis" "Tell the Commander he was right. We were at a crossroads, and there is no going back." --G'Kar's message to Na'Toth, "Chrysalis" "Yes, I think he's ready. Perfect for our needs. No, no, he suspects nothing. When the time is right, Ambassador Mollari will do exactly as we wish. Destiny is on our side." --Morden to Shadows, "Chrysalis" "Nothing's the same any more." --Sinclair, "Chrysalis"
