William C. Montgomery Photo
William C. Montgomery poses with the National Color of the 76th Ohio Regiment that was brought off the battlefield of Ringgold. Montgomery lost an arm serving as a color bearer in that battle. He was obviously well enough to have his image taken with the flag when the Regiment returned to Newark, Ohio in early 1864 for veteran furlough. He survived and participated in the ceremony that brought the State Color home in 1916.
