Returned Flag of
76th Ohio
Shown here is the flag that was returned in 1916 by the 1st Arkansas Infantry. It was mentioned in the after action reports of Ringgold that the National color was carried off the field by the 76th but the State color had been lost. The flag once was on display at the Ohio Historical Society but now resides in a storage facility in Columbus. My great grandfather was John W. Gardner who is pictured on the previous page. It was a humbling experience to stand next to the flag that he fought for. The flag is very detailed with the eagle being hand embroidered.
