Meet Kaleb!

Home Meet Kaleb! Osteopetrosis Kaleb's Siblings

Kaleb is almost 8 years old and now in Second Grade!

Kaleb had quite a few medical "issues" due to an inherited bone disease, osteopetrosis.  It was putting pressure on his optic nerves and causing vision loss.   In 1999, Kaleb underwent two surgeries for optic canal decompression (2/1/99 and 2/24/99) performed by Dr. Edward Kosnik - Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Thankfully his eyesight has improved quite a bit and is now 20/160 in his 'bad' eye.

Kaleb has also broken his pelvis and his L4.  We're not sure how that happened, but somehow we accomplished that not-so-fun feat.  We recently received the diagnosis of seronegative enthithis and arthritis (SEA).  This is affecting his hips and causing quite severe pain at times.  It is very sad to watch Kaleb experience these 'flares' and we pray that God will provide the doctors with the knowledge they need to help us through these times.  We also pray for strength for a very tired mommy and daddy.

But on to better topics, take a peak at a small collection from my Photo Album!  We promise to update the pictures shortly.

Kaleb would love to hear from other children who suffer from osteopetrosis, SEA or any other medical condition that makes these little people very strong individuals.  You can email him at kalebsmom@core.com
