Edward Thompson's Internet Service Providers Page
I have too many Internet Accounts, but I'm rarely in a situation where I can't get out on the net.

Infinet is my main (and favorite) Internet Service Provider (ISP). They have been around for a while and they seem to understand the technology pretty well. They aren't perfect, sometimes pieces are down (News, Mail, DNS, etc.), but overall, they have been the best of the ISPs that I have tried. They also allow shell accounts, allow for personal Web pages, and have a number of connection options.
Since Infinet is a long distance phone call from my home, if I dial in from home, I use DelNet (Delaware Ohio). They seem to only be a Delaware based router front end for EE Net. They are local to me, but I've had more unresolved support issues with them, than Infinet, and I never seem to get a 28.8K connection (always 26K, 24K, sometimes as bad as 19.2K). But if Infinet went away, I would probably use them as my main provider.
I've had my Compuserve account forever and it still has some things I like. I like the Shareware registration facility, SWREG, since it bills the Shareware to your Compuserve account. I like the Online Airline Guide, OAG, and PhoneFile. Probably the best feature I like is it's simple to setup WinCIM and Internet Access stuff. I carry around 2 floppies with a version of WinCIM and can (and have) install it on other peoples computers to quickly setup access to the net (takes about 5 minutes if they have Windows 3.X or later and a working modem).
OK, how many of you out there signed up just because that Windows 95 MSN Icon on the desktop wouldn't go away. I get a kick out of the fact that you can't delete it (at least through normal mechanisms). Anyhow, I signed up for it since it was cheap and I thought maybe it would give me access to some Microsoft stuff that wasn't available to everyone else. This doesn't seem to be the case. On the plus side, it's easy to setup, I haven't had any real problems with them, it's well integrated with Windows 95, and it seems to let you get at the Internet without much grief. On the down side, everything seems slower than Infinet or Delnet.
