Note: In our children's church we have 10-15 minutes of music You can do it with a live band or use music CD's.

Our Bible Blitz is an ongoing contest between our small groups to answer review questions about the lesson. We try to have candy or treats every 3rd or 4th week. We spend about 10-15 minutes in small groups using adults or teens to go over the Bible Blitz questions and do another short activity.

Children's Church Format

Theme: Abraham: trusting and obeying God

Teacher:

Welcome to kidslive. Lets take a few minutes to ask for prayer requests and pray.

Today we are going to play a game. The game is called, Who do you trust. I am going to choose one person to stand up here in front of the group. That person wil choose someone to come and stand behind them. (Hint: choose someone bigger than you). Then the person in front willchose his eyes and fall backward into the arms of the person he has chosen. Be sure to pick someone you can trust. You wouldnt want to fall backward and find they forgot to catch you. (Do 2 or 3 times)

We have been playing the Who do you trust game all of our lives. Dont you remember when you were little and you would jump off the bed into your fathers arms? You never worried whether hed catch you or not, you trusted him.

The story and Abraham and Isaac is a story about trust. Abraham was Isaacs father. Abraham and his wife Sarah were very old, a hundred years old, when they had him. Abraham loved Isaac very, very much but when God asked him to do something he trusted God even though it sounded terrible. Lets watch the skit and find out what happened.

Abraham Skit

Characters: Abraham (white beard)

Isaac

Two servants

God’s voice

Angel

Props: Wood or branches, toy knife for Abraham, stuffed or cardboard lamb, large branch or cardboard tree

(Lights go down as ABRAHAM and ISAAC position themselves in a sleeping position on the stage. GOD’S VOICE is heard from the back stage): ABRAHAM!

(ABRAHAM wakes up, rubs his eyes and looks around confused. After a few seconds he says): Here I am, Lord.

VOICE OF GOD: Take your son, your ONLY son, Isaac, whom you love and go to the mountain and sacrifice him as a burnt offering.

(ABRAHAM looks very sad, hangs his head low and wakes up

Isaac): Wake up, son, we’re going to go up the mountain and make a sacrifice to God. Get two servants to help carry the wood.

(ISAAC runs off and finds the two SERVANTS and the wood behind the stage. They come back to join ABRAHAM. Everyone walks around in circles for awhile)

ABRAHAM: (To the servants): You both stay here while I and my son go worship. We will come back to you.(SERVANTS exit to stage right)

(ISAAC takes the wood and cocks his head): Father, the fire and the wood are here but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?

ABRAHAM (Places his hands on ISAAC’s shoulders): God

Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.

(They continue walking. Both stopand ABRAHAM arranges the wood. He puts ISAAC on top of it. ABRAHAM pulls out the knife and raises his arm to kill ISAAC.)

(ANGEL comes in from the side saying loudly): ABRAHAM!!ABRAHAM!!

ABRAHAM (Is startled, looks up quickly and stops what he is doing): Here I am.

ANGEL: Do not lay a hand on your son. Do not do anything to him. I know that you fear God because you have not held back your only son. (ANGEL points in the direction of the lamb. ABRAHAM turns and sees the lamb and quickly runs over and stabs it . He takes it back to the wood, pulls his son up and hugs him tightly)

ABRAHAM: I will call this place, the Lord will provide!

GOD’S VOICE: Because you have obeyed Me, I will bless you and your children will be as many as the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore!

(ABRAHAM and ISAAC exit with ABRAHAM’S arm around ISAAC’S shoulders.)

Teacher:

This story is found in Genesis 22. Do you know why did God ask Abraham to kill his only son? ( He was testing Abraham to see if he would obey Him. It is also a picture of God and Jesus.)

Abraham is like the Father God and it shows us how God must have felt when he allowed Jesus to die for us. How would you feel if your only son had to die for the world?

It was pretty amazing, that Isaac just laid there and didn’t fight his father. Why did he do that?( He had learned to obey and trust his father.)

God was very pleased with Abraham and made him the father of all the Israelites.

Small Groups: Small groups will talk about the Word of God is the sword of the Spirit. They will have some situations to match with scriptures. Do it as a race and the first table to get done can get extra points. Read off the situations and solutions with the mic on stage. Bible Blitz

Do Bible Blitz competition.

Large Group game if time: Play follow the leader. Say: Just like Abraham obeyed God, so we need to obey God. Right now we are going to obey our leader and do everything the leader does. Line out in a line and do everything I do. (walk around the room doing hand and feet motions like clapping, flapping arms, hand on head, skipping, hopping, etc). Pick some student leaders every minute or so.
